  1. Truly one of your MOST accomplished paintings! You just keep growing! Fantastic use of the white paper and great rippling water.

  2. This is a good painting. It makes me think warm thoughts as the wind is whipping snow around here. Happy New Year to you too.

  4. Beautiful ibis in water. I've been seeing them...and I'm finally here! Rookery Bay, even! Can hardly wait till this cold front passes and I can be out sketching.

  5. Hi Jeanette, thank you for the wonderful compliment! I’m glad to be growing, and not moving in the other direction! : ) Although sometimes growth is very frustrating. This one had its moments, for sure.

Thank you Lisa! I’m glad I could bring warm feelings and a sense of our Florida weather to you there in the cold! I’m from Iowa originally and I remember those winters well. Brrrr…

Hello Kathy, thanks for your kind words! It’s funny, but I wasn’t all that happy with this painting. The picture in my head is always more, somehow. I suspect because it’s more dimensional, and trying to put that on a 2D piece of paper always comes up short. I’m glad I get to see it through others’ eyes – it makes me appreciate the parts I got right!

Hi Sue! Glad you got to Florida! Maybe you’ll have a chance to join us at Fakahatchee on 1-21-12 (see the Events page on my blog for more information). If you send me your email address, I can put you on the list. When you emailed me last time from Blogger, it has a “No Reply” function, so you may not have gotten my response. We are hoping for warmer weather that weekend!

Hello Kate! Thank you! Since I consider you a mentor, I couldn’t ask for a better compliment! Each time I sketch or paint, my goal is to bring the viewer into my experience – to share the sun on the leaves or the excitement of catching a glimpse of a white ibis wading away as fast as he could…

  7. Thank you, Paul!

Thanks, Ruca! I’m pleased with the way the reflection turned out, too. It gave me fits at first, but ended well. :D
